Journey to Virtual Commuting

Work at Home Now: The No-nonsense Guide to Finding Your Perfect Home-based Job, Avoiding Scams, and Making a Great Living
A bit about me...I've wanted to work from home since being downsized the Tuesday following "9/11", a day that changed the course of my career & personal life forever.

I had been working for a large US company for about a year doing remote technical support. I sort of stumbled into the field after completing my MBA when a friend told me I should check out this small consulting company she was doing accounting for. They hired me so I started a crash-course in IT and
managing small software development and networking projects. I was offered a technical position about 1 1/2 years later so I accepted. I knew I would not be a technical guru yet I thought becoming more technically astute would make me a better project manager so I accepted & even took a pay cut to boot. A year later it was gone along with some hopes and dreams. Finding IT work for a rookie such as myself was impossible when even Subject Matter Experts or SMEs who had tons of skills and experience couldn't get work either.

So I started fooling around with HTML freeware and creating webpages. I used it as a sort of therapy to work through my anger while picking up some new skills. That's when I came across various work from home, get rich quick scams and other paid to do this and that opportunities. It seemed to me that the only legit work at home gigs were for software developers and those with similar skill sets. Between this and life circumstances, I was forced to take a regular job and put my hopes of working from home on the back burner.

So here I sit almost 10 years later finally working virtually. I started about 2 months ago and haven't looked back. I'm working a full-time job during the day and learning as much as I can at night for creating other streams of revenue online.
